HYL Completes the Headquarters of White & Case in New York New York, NY | April 2017 The design of law firm White & Case’s office encourages collaboration, mentoring and networking among attorneys and legal professionals in a sophisticated, modern workspace. Working with real estate firm Jones Lang Lasalle, the team helped support White & Case throughout their building search to find the right location for the new White & Case offices in New York. Once the final decision was made to relocate to an existing building at 1221 Avenue of the Americas, the design team began the programming process by interviewing more than 80 key partners and associates about their workplace needs. This enabled us to create a highly efficient plan along with a modern design that communicates the firm’s culture. The modular plan and kit-of-parts design maximize flexibility and streamline workflow. With two office sizes to accommodate partners and associates, every workspace has a sit-to-stand option. Open and closed collaboration spaces located throughout the office offer scenic views of Manhattan and abundant natural daylight. A “knowledge center” supports research, shared work and education. Pentagram collaborated on the environmental graphics to reinforce White & Case’s modern identity and culture. The design draws on White & Case’s brand to enhance the experience for visitors and employees. A warm, balanced and natural palette conveys a sophisticated interior ambiance broken up by dramatic moments of light and materiality. The modern two-story reception space welcomes guests with stone- and leather-wrapped walls. A dramatic blackened steel communicating stairway connects the reception area to a coffee bar. The space integrates emerging technologies that support the increasing need for mobility, group workspaces and virtual collaboration. Employee amenities including restaurant-style dining, a full-service fitness facility and a wellness center encourage work-life balance and improve the quality of life for employees. A robust art program includes pieces from renowned international artists on display at key locations throughout the office. HOK and HYL Architecture collaborated on the project with HOK leading the design of the amenity floors and HYL Architecture leading the design of the office practice floors.
